The Pittsburgh Pirates suffered an upset loss to the Miami Marlins, snapping a 10-game losing streak. Bae Ji-Hwan, who has been struggling at the plate, has been silent for five games.

Pittsburgh gave up five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to fall 4-6 to the 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) Miami at Rondipo Park in Miami, Florida, U.S., on Wednesday (July 23).

With the loss, Pittsburgh has now dropped 10 games, dating back to April 14 against the Chicago Cubs. With their 40th loss of the season (34), the Pirates fell to 5.5 games behind the National League Central-leading Cincinnati Reds (40-35).

Bae Ji-Hwan started in the eighth spot in the lineup and struggled, going 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.

After hitting a grounder to second base with the bases loaded in the third inning, Bae struck out in both the fifth and eighth innings. After going hitless in his last five games, Bae’s batting average dropped to .250.

After losing the lead in the bottom of the second inning, Pittsburgh tied the game in the top of the fourth. Conor Jo led off the inning with a single up the middle, and Carlos Santana immediately followed with an RBI double. Santana then stole third on Rodolfo Castro’s at-bat and came home on a throwing error by Miami catcher Nick Fortes to make it 2-1.

Holding onto a slim lead, Pittsburgh widened the gap with two home runs in the top of the eighth. Henry Davis, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft, hit a grand slam in just his fourth major league at-bat, and Keebrean Hayes followed with a solo arch over the left field fence to make it 4-1.

On the mound, starter Mitch Keller shut down the Miami offense with seven innings of five-hit ball, striking out five and walking one. 토토사이트

Pittsburgh, which was on the verge of snapping a nine-game losing streak, had a nightmare after turning to its bullpen in the bottom of the eighth. Second starter Dauri Moretta worked a bases-loaded jam with two singles and a walk, and reliever Carmen Mlodzinski gave up an RBI double to Brian De La Cruz and a game-tying three-run homer to Garrett Cooper.

Down 4-6, Pittsburgh failed to score in the top of the ninth and hung its head again.
