After ‘grueling doubleheader’, Korea U-18 Baseball Team loses 1-7 to Korea in Super Round 1…will play USA on Aug. 8
The Korea National Under-18 Baseball Team was swept by Japan in the first game of the Super Round. The after-effects of playing a doubleheader of preliminary round suspended games the day before were evident.
South Korea lost 1-7 to Japan in the first game of the Super Round of the 31st World Youth Baseball Championship on September 7 in Taipei, Taiwan.
The Koreans were unable to play their preliminary game against Puerto Rico on Sept. 6 due to a rain delay. After playing a suspended game on Sunday morning, starting in the top of the third inning, Korea went straight to work against Japan on Sunday afternoon.
Korea was unable to capitalize on their starter, Maeda, as the game dragged on. In the bottom of the second inning, Morida swung at a third pitch that the catcher scooped up at first base, but the ball was high and fell backwards, allowing a run to score. After an infield single by No. 6 Maruta and a wild pitch put runners on second and third, No. 7 Chibana hit a three-run homer to center field. Ogata’s grounder to the second baseman in the eighth inning allowed the runner from third to score.
Korea responded in the top of the sixth when Lee Chung-heon led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jung Ahn-seok. Three batters later, Yeo Dong-gun singled through the left side to make it a one-run game. However, Japan’s leadoff hitter Yamida hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth.
Jeon came on in relief in the bottom of the sixth after starter Bae Chan-seung was removed from the game after allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts in five innings. Jeon gave up a single up the middle to Ogata and a sacrifice bunt for the third out. However, he was shaken by a stolen base and a walk. With runners on first and third, the pitch was hit in front of the pitcher and the runner on third was caught in a rundown, while the other runners advanced one base.
With runners on second and third, the pitcher gave up a single to #7 Chivana to score two more runs. They then gave up another run on back-to-back wild pitches by Jeon Mir and a single to right by Hajimoto in the eighth, ending the game with a final score of 1-7. 소닉카지노
