‘Changwon→Gocheok→DH→2pm’ Most games played, but ‘murderous schedule’, horns raised…KBO, “Opponent consideration and equity”
“I think it’s unreasonable.”
Kiwoom Heroes head coach Hong Won-ki said. The KBO announced the schedule for the remainder of the 2023 season on Monday.
Starting this year, the league abolished the two-game series and moved to a three-game series, prioritizing games through Sept. 10. There are 50 games that were not scheduled on the 29th and 66 games that were postponed due to rain. A total of 116 games were scheduled through October 10.
On September 9, which was originally scheduled for regular games, four stadiums will host doubleheaders except for the Suwon (SSG-KT) game. The games in question are Jamsil (Samsung-Dusan), Gochuk (Hanwha-Kiwoom), Suwon (LG-KIA), and Changwon (Lotte-NC).
Kiwoom has a tight schedule.
After playing the Changwon NC Dinos on June 6-8, they travel to the Gocheok Dome on the 8th for a three-game series against Hanwha. They will play a doubleheader on the 9th and then prepare for a 2 p.m. game on the 10th.
Kiwoom coach Hong Won-ki said, “The 9th is a regular season game that was previously organized, but it was organized as a doubleheader. I don’t understand why it’s a doubleheader when there’s a reserve day afterward. The previous game is against Changwon and Saturday is the doubleheader, and we have to play two games, but I don’t think it’s too unreasonable,” he said.
Kiwoom has played the most games with the dome effect this season. Coincidentally, they have only had four games canceled due to playing at home whenever there is a typhoon or rain. One of those games was canceled due to fine dust. 먹튀검증
Playing a tight schedule while avoiding the rain, the team played 119 games through 29 days, the most of any of the 10 teams. That’s 15 games more than KIA, which has played the fewest (104).
Hong said, “There is no reason to play a doubleheader in the Gocheok Dome. It’s hard to understand the decision to doubleheader a regular season game on Saturday to avoid the Hwasumok reserve day,” said Hong. “I know there are difficulties in scheduling because so many games were canceled, but I would like to see a more detailed decision.”
The KBO responded by saying, “There has been a long reserve day. The schedule of the opponent (Hanwha) should have been taken into consideration as well,” he said, adding, “If we organized an extra day of preparation, Hanwha should have traveled to Gocheok to play one game. There is also an opinion that we could play Doosan on October 12 and play in Gocheok, but then Hanwha would have to leave an extra day.” The KBO continued, “There was also the aspect of trying to distribute the doubleheaders somewhat evenly. There were only nine days for Kiwoom to play a doubleheader.”
